Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, is the only site which is listed as world heritage outside Kathmandu Valley. The evidences suggest that Gautam Buddha, the enlightened one, was born in Lumbini more than sixth century B.C. The main shrines and the temples in Lumbini are Ashok Pillar, Mayadevi Temple, and Shakyapuskarini Pond. The pond where, it is believed, Mayadevi had taken a bath before giving birth to Lord Buddha.
