Kathmandu Durbar Square is located at Basantapur in Kathmandu. The former Royal families used to dwell there before the birth of Narayanhiti Royal Palace. The Square is one of the ancient most palaces in Nepal and is considered to be built in Lichhivi period. Altogether, the palace consists of two parts. One is inner where there are numerous temples including Taleju Bhawani (which is opened for the common people during Dashain only). And the outer part consists of Kumari Ghar, Kasthamandap, Hanuman Dhoka and the nine storey museum. The Royal Coronation is held at the inner part of the palace and a legendry ceremony Holika Dahan (a legendry character who was burnt to ash) is held out of Hanuman Dhoka. The Square remains open for the visitors throughout the year.
